In the late 1930s, just before Europe engaged in World War II, Henry J. and Erna D. Leir escaped persecution in Germany and found refuge in the The Grandy Duchy of Luxembourg. Henry Leir became a highly successful industrialist, and both he and Erna Leir remained grateful to Luxembourg. Henry Leir asked Clark to create a program that would deepen ties to the Grand Duchy and introduce our students to the country that provided them with safe haven. The Leir Luxembourg Program-Clark University (LLP-CU) continues to fulfill that request.

Our Mission
In accordance with the wishes of our patrons, Dr. h.c. Henry J. and Erna D. Leir, the LLP-CU’s goal is to deepen and broaden relationships between Clark University and the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg. Thus, in all our activities, we seek the involvement of citizens of Luxembourg either as individuals or through organizations and institutes.
Seminars and Workshops
Each summer, the LLP-CU sponsors multiple research conferences in Luxembourg, convened by Clark faculty, and involving scholars and practitioners from around the world.
